Founder
My name is Nicola Anderson and I’m originally from London. I moved to Lancaster in 1990. I am a childcare worker and have been to Thailand twice. The first time I was there for 6 weeks and the second for a year. In that year I realised and learnt the plan of 1Step2Step. Once I met and connected with these children I knew I could not just walk away from their lives. The potential of these children needs to be seen and I believe this project can help that. We want to see them develop and grow into strong adults with bright futures.
Chair / Finance
My name is David Dawson and I am a professional engineer with industrial, academic and business experience. Married to Cathleen, a pharmacist, we have three children Stephen (32) who has severe learning difficulties and cerebral palsy, Anne (30) a doctor specializing in pediatrics and Richard (27) an engineer. Our family is quietly but firmly grounded in our commitment to Jesus. I am very excited about the 1Step2Step project because of what we have learned by our experience in bringing up Stephen and our previous knowledge of some of the ways, including the Portage a system of training, which can so greatly help children with these problems.
General Admin
My name is Sally Anderson, Nicola’s mum. I work as a teacher with children experiencing a range of special needs. Having lived in Norfolk and London, I moved to Lancaster in 1990. As well as wanting to help Nicola, I have been to Thailand and met many of the children that 1Step2Step will hopefully be working with. You can see it in their eyes and feel a sense of hope despite the situation they are in. If these children can have the opportunity to show and develop their skills, they will surprise us. Long-term, I hope the project will support more families to continue to care for their own children.
Minutes Admin / Prayer Secretary
My name is Suzie Shearsby and I moved to Lancaster in 2002 to study politics at Lancaster University. I run my own holistic and beauty therapy company and I work part time in marketing and PR. I am married to Rob and we have been going to St Thomas CE, Lancaster (St Tees) for 2 years. I have a great interest in Nicola's amazing work and really want to be able to be a support to 1Step2Step and to Nicola. I have visited Thailand many years ago and hope to visit Nicola in 2009.
Volunteer co-ordinator
My name is Sarah Pilling and I’m a Norfolk girl originally from Norwich but moved to Lancaster in 2003. I run the St Thomas Pre-school centre. I believe God has called me to be a supporter of this charity. I hope to see 1Step2Step bring the love of God to the children and people of Pakkred. These children with cerebral palsy want to be given the chance to reach their potential and I believe 1Step2Step can help make that a reality.
Advisory board co-ordinator
My name is Amy Rowbotham and I’m originally from Worcestershire. I moved to Lancaster in 1999 where I studied Occupational Therapy. I am involved in this project because I feel really passionate and excited about the work of 1Step2Step. I would like to see these children reach their full potential.
Correspondence co-ordinator
My name is Becca Chamberlain. I am originally from Gravesend in Kent. In the Easter of 2001 I moved up to Lancaster. I work at St. Thomas church as the children’s pastor and courses co-ordinator. Nicola has lived with my husband and I since she returned from Thailand. She has enabled me to catch the contagious passion for the disabled children of Thailand.

My name is Chris Rowbotham and I’m originally from West Yorkshire. I moved to Lancaster in 1998 to study at Lancaster University. I am supporting this project because it will help the children reach their potential and demonstrate just what they are capable of.
